Week 1

This week we were introduced to the idea and expectations of the project. We were able to meet with and introduce ourselves to the mentors who were calling in from all over the world! As as class we were all placed into teams of 5 to create our own commercial for a product of our choosing. I was placed on Team Nuage (previously Team Wooden Nickels) as the team compositor alongside FX artists Mia Laplanche and Nidhi Jallepally, Look dev artist Ella Lawlor, and lighting artist Emily Marcelis.

Our focus this week has been coming up with an idea for the project and formatting it into a pitch presentation for the mentors on Tuesday of Week 2.

Our AI use so far this quarter has been quite light, but I have been experimenting and have yielded some good results as well as some bad ones. Below are some results using Gemini (Nano Banana image generation).

Once the team was happy with where our presentation was at I attempted to run the slide deck through Gemini to see if it could help make our presentation clearer. Weirdly It came up with a bunch of spelling errors that were not present. I believe this is likely due to some sort of issue with how it interpreted the PDF.

I then switched to Claude. I have used it before, and I have found it to be the best and most accurate large language model. However I mainly use Gemini because if have found the free version is quite extensive.
